A group of women saw a man running from the rain and thought he was fleeing from attackers. They immediately started running away as well without speaking to the man or questioning. When they arrived at the village chief's house and asked why they were running, they said they thought the man was running from attackers at the river, which sparked a small panic amongst the people in the immediate vicinity. This rumour was quickly dispelled when the man initially running explained that he was trying to get out of the rain. In a subsequent conversation with Kipao villagers, the source of the rumour was corrected as children throwing rocks at a metal roof, which apparently sounded like gunshots.
